Evolve Energy has completed a nationwide energy-savings project for Esporta Leisure, with over 50 facilities throughout the UK ranging from fitness clubs to full-service health and racquet clubs. The project was awarded to Evolve Energy, which previously traded as Envision Energy, in April 2005 after trials in a large health and racquet site where savings in excess of 20% were achieved during the pilot project across all three utilities. This was followed by an aggressive schedule of site monitoring and energy pack installation from May to August 2005 to ensure the client would get the benefit of the energy reductions in their current financial year.
"Mobilising the resources was a massive challenge for the engineering team" said Paul Hale, Head of Engineering Services at Evolve Energy. "We're not aware of anyone in the Energy business rolling out a programme of this size and complexity across this number of sites nationwide in such a short time period. It was essential to get it right first time due to the specific needs of the client to get costs down against a background of huge increases in their energy bills."
The initial steps In the project were to install data logging on all primary billing meters so the consumption profiles of each site could be seen via the Evolve On-Line energy service, from which any subsequent change of control technologies could be identified in the bottom line at Esporta sites.
"This was a typical roll-out model for our business" commented David Higgins, MD of Evolve Energy. "Without good data it is impossible to create good management strategies for energy reduction and we were delighted that Esporta senior management saw the benefit of this approach early on in the project. You must put the consumption data in the hands of the people who actually use energy for effective reduction and now each manager throughout the group can see exactly what is going on with regards to energy in their facilities at any time."
