Cornwall Leisure centre celebrates refurbishment

Lux Park Leisure Centre in Cornwall has completed the first phase of a two-part refurbishment project, with the re-opening of its gym on January 4. The new 52-station Life Fitness equipped gym now features a comprehensive range of cardiovascular products from the 95-Series, as well as strength machines from the Signature Series and the innovative new Life Fitness Circuit Series. The second phase of work, which involves an upgrade to the changing areas and multi-purpose activity room, is already underway and is due to be completed by the end of February.
Caradon District Council has worked in conjunction with Summit Leisure Solutions (SLS) to redevelop the centre. It follows the recent refurbishment of one of the council’s other sites, Saltash Leisure Centre, which took place in July 2006. Not only has SLS provided the funding mechanism to enable the upgrade work to be carried out, it has also facilitated and overseen the entire project.
Michele Baker-Caton, Leisure Services Manager at Caradon District Council, says: “With limited resources and expertise in the leisure development sector we’ve found the support of SLS invaluable. The whole process has been extremely smooth, which I attribute to the fact that we have worked closely together and developed a strong partnership”
Vic Sleath, at Summit, adds: “This continued investment demonstrates the council’s commitment to the health and wellbeing of the local community by improving the quality of facility and services provided for residents.”
To support the projects Summit Leisure Solutions in partnership with Strategic Leisure undertook the feasibility exercise that included research of the market and financial implications of the developments to ensure the projects are sustainable.
